NAGKULANG ba ang Philippine Institute of Volcanology sa pag-abiso sa publiko kaugnay ng pagputok ng Bulkang Taal?

Ito ang nais malaman sa ipinatatawag na imbestigasyon sa Kamara de Representantes dahil mistulang umanong nagkagulatan sa pagsabog ng Taal noong Linggo.

 “Although we recognize the challenges of the Phivolcs, there should still be an investigation if it has conducted comprehensive monitoring, its use and availability of monitoring equipment and if it has the technical expertise to make a timely forecast of the Taal volcano eruption,” saad ng House Resolution 643 na inihain ni Barzaga.

Alas-11 ng umaga noong Linggo ay mayroon na umanong pagtaas sa aktibidad ng Taal pero walang news bulletin o SMS alerts mula sa Phivolcs.

 “… due to lack of information, in the afternoon of the same day, while Taal Volcano is already manifesting increased volcanic activity, people still travelled towards it, while those who were already near Taal Volcano were shocked to see the smoke spewing from it and has to immediately flee under the dangers of ashfall.”

Nais ni Barzaga na maimbestigahan din kung bakit mayroong mga permanenteng imprastraktura sa permanent danger zone gayundin ang overpricing umano ng mga bilihin.

“Appropriate charges need to be filed to those unscrupulous persons who sold face masks and other food and supplies at an unreasonable cost during these times of disaster.”
