9 rebelde sumurender; 15 baril, mga pampasabog sinuko

TATLONG regular na miymebro ng New People’s Army at siyam na kasapi ng Militia ng Bayan ang sumuko sa mga tropa ng pamahalaan at nagsuko ng 15 baril at mga pampasabog, sa San Mariano, Isabela.

Ang tatlong kasapi ng NPA, na kinilala lang sa mga alyas na “Papi,” “Daryl,” at “Kolikot,” ay pawang mga miyembro ng Sub-Guerilla Unit ng Central Front ng Komiteng Rehiyon-Cagayan Valley, ayon kay Maj. Noriel Tayaban, tagapagsalita ng Army 5th Infantry Division.

Si “Papi” ay miyembro ng explosives team ng unit, habang sina “Daryl” at “Kolikot” ay dating mga lider ng NPA sa Samar at Davao City, aniya.

Dalawa sa mga sumukong kasapi ng Militia ng Bayan ay commander, isa ay squad leader, at isa ay 16-anyos na dalagita, ayon kay Tayaban.

Sumuko sila sa mga tauhan ng Army 95th Infantry Battalion, 17th IB, 86th IB, mga pulis, at intelligence operatives nitong Huwebes.

Kabilang sa kanilang mga isinuko ang isang M60 machine gun, 12 unit ng M16 assault rifles, isang M14 assault rifle, ilang improvised explosive device, at mga kagamitang panggawa ng pampasabog.

“The voluntary surrender of these members is also considered a big upset to the CPP-NPA and clear manifestation that the rebels who are touring around Isabela are now degrading,” sabi ni Brig. Gen. Laurence Mina, commander ng Army 502nd Brigade.

Hinikayat naman ni Maj. Gen. Pablo Lorenzo, commander ng 5th ID, ang iba pang rebelde na magsisuko na lang, lalo na’t nalalapit na ang Pasko, para makapiling ang kanilang mga kaanak at kaibigan.
