Natalo si Abella kay Abdul Rahman sa iskor na 15-12 sa ikatlong round ng finals.
Nagawang makapasok ni Abella sa gold medal match matapos talunin sa semifinals si NguyenThi Nhu Hoa ng Vietnam, 15-10.
Ang unang silver ng Pilipinas sa fencing ay nagmula kay Christian Jhester Concepcion sa men’s individual sabre competition.
