Kandila na may lead mapanganib sa kalusugan

PINAG-IINGAT ng EcoWaste Coalition ang publiko sa mga kandila na ginamitan ng mitsa na may lead.

Ayon sa EcoWaste noon pang 2003 ipinagbabawal sa Estados Unidos ang ganitong produkto dahil sa panganib na dala sa kalusugan subalit ibinebenta pa rin ito sa bansa.

Noong 2016 ay nagpalabas na rin ng babala ang Food and Drug Administration laban sa mga kandilang na lead ang mitsa.

Nagsagawa ng test buy ang EcoWaste noong Linggo at nakabili ito ng mga kandila na may lead ang mitsa sa Ongpin st., sa Maynila. Ang mga kandila ay gawa sa Taiwan.

“We advise the public not to light candles with lead-cored wicks as this could pose a lead poisoning risk, especially to young children who may inhale the lead that vaporizes into the air as the candle burns,” ani Thony Dizon, chemical safety campaigner ng EcoWaste.

Maaaring masingkot ang usok mula sa mga mitsang ito na masama sa kalusugan.

Ang lead ay may masamang epekto sa utak at central nervous system na magreresulta sa mabagal na development ng isip, hirap sa pag-aaral, hormonal disruption, behavioral problems at iba pa.
