Tamang nutrisyon kailangan para manatiling kampeon

Melvin Sarangay - October 11, 2019 - 08:53 PM

“Madaling maging champion. If you have the talent and if you train hard, you can be a champion. But for you to remain a champion, you need the support of good nutrition,” sabi ni Aro sa kanyang pagdalo sa ika-43 edisyon ng “Usapang Sports” na hatid ng Tabloids Organization in Philippine Sports (TOPS) sa National Press Club sa Intramuros, Maynila nitong Huwebes ng umaga.

“One of the key areas in sports na dapat talaga natin bigyan ng pansin ay ‘yung nutrition.

Pero ‘yung ma-maintain mo ‘yung status mo throughout your career, that’s hard.

“To me, food supplement is just icing on the cake. Some athletes rely on supplements dahil madali makuha. Kaya I always tell my athletes to watch out ‘yung mga food intake nila,” dagdag pa ni Aro, na isang taekwondo athlete noong nag-aaral siya ng high school at college sa University of the Philippines.

Hinahawakan din ni Aro ang pangangailangang nutrisyonal ng Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) team na TNT KaTropa at national boxing team ng Association of Boxing Alliances of the Philippines (ABAP) at binigyan niya ng kredito si dating Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) secretary-general Patrick Gregorio sa paglipat niya sa nasabing trabaho.

“Actually, I was a part-time taekwondo teacher to school children. I also taught aerobics and group exercises. Then Mr. Gregorio gave me a chance to handle the Philippine men’s basketball team competing in the 2005 SEA Games,” pagbabalik-tanaw ni Aro.

“I also handled the national boxing team in 2009 until 2010. I stopped for awhile then returned in 2017 until now. I also now handle the UP taekwondo team. Nandyan na rin sina jiu-jitsu champion Meggie Ochoa and boxers Eumir Marcial and Nesthy Petecio.”
