PH Blu Boys sasabak sa World Men’s Softball Championships
MATAPOS ang 15 taon na pagkawala, sasabak muli ang Philippine Blu Boys sa World Men’s Softball Championships.
Umalis ng bansa ang koponan noong Linggo para sumabak sa torneo na gaganapin sa Prague, Czech Republic ngayong Hunyo 13 hanggang 24.
Nasa Group A ang PH Blu Boys kasama ang defending champion New Zealand, Asian champion Japan, Cuba, Botswana, Mexico, Argentina at host Czech Republic.
Makakasagupa ng Pilipinas, na ranked No. 17 sa mundo, ang No. 24 ranked Cuba sa kanilang unang laro sa Hunyo 14.
“We have been working hard for this and for the Blu Boys, playing against the world’s best teams will certainly provide us with the needed international experience, at the same time that we will determine our improvement areas for the team,” sabi ni Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (Asaphil) president Jean Henri Lhuillier.
Kumpiyansa si Lhuillier na nagpapakita ng husay ang koponan sa torneo na kinatatampukan ng top 24 men’s softball teams sa mundo.
Sinegundahan naman ni Blu Boys head coach Eufracio de la Cruz ang sinabi ni Lhuillier sa pagsabi na, “I believe we have a big chance of making it to the top ten as we have been preparing hard for this.”
Tanging ang top four teams mula sa dalawang grupo ang uusad sa playoffs.
Makakaharap ng Blu Boys ang No. 13 Botswana sa Hunyo 15, No. 5 Argentina sa Hunyo 16, No. 3 Japan sa Hunyo 17, No. 7 Czech Republic sa Hunyo 18,; No. 1 New Zealand sa Hunyo 19, at No. 20 Mexico sa Hunyo 20.
Ang Group B ay binubuo naman ng No. 2 Canada, No. 4 Australia, No. 6 United States, No. 8 Venezuela, No. 11 Denmark, No. 12 South Africa, No. 19 Netherlands at No. 22 Singapore.
Ang torneo ay inorganisa at pinangangasiwaan ng World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSF).
