Manila Water pinatawan ng P1.13B multa dahil sa water shortage
PINATAWAN ng Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System ang Manila Water Co. Inc ng P1.13 bilyon multa matapos ang nangyayaring kakulangan ng suplay ng tubig sa East Zone concession.
Sa isang pahayag, sinabi ng MWSS board of trustees na kabilang sa multa ang P534 milyon para sa kabiguang magampanan ang pagseserbisyo at karagdagang P600 milyon para sa bagong pagkukunan ng tubig ng Manila Water.
Ito’y bukod pa sa P500 milyong voluntary bill waiver — isang self-imposed penalty.
Sa isang hiwalay na pahayag, sinabi ng Manila Water na susunod ito sa parusa matapos mabigong magkapagsuplay ng tubig sa mga kostumer ng 24 oras “at 7 pounds per square inch”.
“While we are not the root cause for the inadequacy of the raw water supply coming from Angat Dam which we are mandated to treat and distribute, Manila Water, as agent and contractor of water services of MWSS, hold ourselves accountable for our inability to provide our consumers with the usual uninterrupted water service,“ sabi ni Manila Water president at CEO Ferdinand dela Cruz.
