PH richest man na si Henry Sy Sr. pumanaw na sa edad na 94

PUMANAW na ang pinakamayamang Pinoy na si Henry Sr. ngayong araw, ayon sa isang miyembro ng pamilya Sy. Siya ay 94.

“[He] passed away peacefully in his sleep early Saturday morning,” ayon sa pahayag ng isang opisyal ng conglomerate, kasabay ng pagsasabing pinaplantsa pa ang detalye ng burol at libing ng retail magnate.

Si Sy ang pinakamayaman tao sa Pilipinas sa nakalipas na 11 taon, ayon sa  Forbes magazine, na kung saan inilagay ang kanyang net worth sa $19 bilyon.

Siya ang founder ng SM Group at chairman emeritus ng SM Prime Holdings Inc., SM Development Corporation, at Highlands Prime Inc. BDO Unibank Inc., at honorary chair ng China Banking Corporation.

Itinayo ni Sy ang kanyang unang tindahan ng sapatos sa downtown Manila noong 1958, na kalaunan ay lumaki bilang empire kabilang ang pagnenegosyo sa property, banking, mining, education, at health care. 

“He was a happy man knowing that he left our world a better place to live in,” sabi ni SM Investments Corp. chair Jose Sio. 

“He was an icon in Philippine retail, banking and real estate. Above all, he was a caring father and a God-loving man. I will miss him,” dagdag ni Sio.

Sa ngayon, aabot na sa 200 kompanya sa buong Pilipinaa ang pag-aari ng SM group.
