Lydia De Vega, Paeng Nepomuceno nanguna sa bagong batch ng Philippine Sports Hall of Fame

ISA-ISANG binanggit ni PSC Chairman William Ramirez (ikatlo mula sa kaliwa) ang pangalan ng mga dating atleta na kasama sa ikatlong batch ng  Philippine Sports Hall of Fame sa ginanap  na press conference sa PSC Conference Hall sa Vito Cruz , Maynila Biyernes. REY NILLAMA

MATAPOS ang masinsinang selection process, pangungunahan nina Asia’s Fastest Woman Lydia De Vega-Mercado, multi-awarded bowler Rafael “Paeng” Nepomuceno at walong iba pang Filipino sporting legends ang mga napili ng Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) na bubuo sa ikatlong batch ng mga enshrinee sa Philippine Sports Hall of Fame.

“It is with pride that I announce the 10 newest members of the Philippine Sports Hall of Fame,” sabi ni PSC Chairman William  “Butch” Ramirez sa ginanap  na press conference Biyernes sa PSC Admin Bldg., Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

Inanunsyo ito ni Ramirez, na siyang namumuno sa Selection and Screening Committee, kasama nina Philippine Olympic Committee representative Ed Picson, Games and Amusements Board representative Dioscoro Bautista, Jr., Philippine Olympian Association President Akiko Thomson-Guevara, national sports association representative Bernie Atienza at media representative Dodo Catacutan, ang pangulo ng Philippine Sportswriters Association, matapos ang ikalawang round ng final voting ng mga nominee.

Kasama nina De Vega at Nepomuceno sina dating Asian Golf Circuit winner Ben Arda, basketball legends Sen. Ambrosio Padilla at Loreto Carbonell, baseball at softball standout Filomeno “Boy” Codiñera, Jr., decorated bowlers Olivia “Bong” Coo at Lita dela Rosa, boxing flyweight champion Erbito Salavarria at Asian Games gold medalist Josephine dela Viña ng athletics.

“The committee discussed and voted for 10 nominees to form the third batch of Hall of Fame awardees based on their contributions to Philippine sports guided by the criteria set by the law,” dagdag ni Thomson-Guevara.

“The elected hall of famers will receive an incentive worth P100,000 and a trophy to commemorate their enshrinement,” sabi naman ni PSC Commissioner Celia Kiram.

Ang induction ceremony para sa ikatlong batch ng hall of famers ay gaganapin sa Nobyembre 22 sa Philippine International Convention Center.
