Pinoy boxers sisimulan ang pagsabak sa Asiad

JAKARTA — Pag-iinitin ng walo kataong Philippine boxing team ang kampanya ng Pilipinas sa pagsabak ng tatlo nitong boksingero sa ginaganap na 18th Asian Games sa Jakarta International Expo Hall.

Sasandigan ng Pilipinas ang anim na lalaking boxer at dalawang lady boxer na binubuo nina Rogen Ladon (52 kilograms), Eumir Felix Marcial (75 kgs), Mario Fernandez (56 kgs), Carlo Paalam (49 kgs), James Palicte (60 kgs) at Joel Bacho (69 kgs). Ang dalawang babae ay sina Irish Magno (51 kgs) at Nesthy Petecio (57 kgs).

“Everyone we sent here is prepared for battle. They are all in best condition. They’re all given ample training and international exposures,” sabi ni Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (ABAP) executive director Ed Piczon. “We’re really optimistic all of them are capable of winning a medal.”

Matatandaan na ang boxing ay madalas na nakapagbibigay ng medalya sa Asian Games kung saan huli itong nakapagwagi ng isang pilak at tanso noong 2014 Asiad sa Incheon, South Korea.

Ang PH boxers ay dumating dito noong Martes kasama mga coach na sina Ronald Chavez, Nolito Velasco at Elmer Pamisa, psychologist Marcus Manalo at team manager Carina Picson.

Habang isinusulat ito ay nakatakdang isagawa ang mga draw sa lahat ng kategorya habang sisimulan ang mga laban ngayon sa men’s flyweight (52kg), men’s lightweight (60kg), men’s welterweight (69kg) at women’s flyweight (51kg).
