SASAMPAHAN ng impeachment case ng isang solon ang walong justices ng Korte Suprema na bumoto na matanggal si Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno sa puwesto sa pamamagitan ng quo warranto petition. Ayon kay Akbayan Rep. Tom Villarin kasama niya sa paghahain ng impeachment ang Magnificent 7 o ang grupo ng mga natalo na maging House minority bloc. Iginiit ni Villarin na mali ang ginawa ng walong justices ng SC dahil malinaw sa Konstitusyon na maaari lamang matanggal si Sereno sa pamamagitan ng impeachment trial. Ang walong bumoto pabor sa quo warranto case ay sina Associate Justices Teresita Leonardo-De Castro, Diosdado Peralta, Lucas Bersamin, Francis Jardeleza, Samuel Martires, Noel Tijam, Andres Reyes Jr., at Alexander Gesmundo. “I think it would have bipartisan support from members of the House and would do their constitutional duty to defend the constitution and Congress being sole institution where an impeachment complaint can be filed and heard,” ani Villarin. Posible umanong maihain ang reklamo bago ang sine die adjournment ng sesyon sa Hunyo 1. “This plot will gain ground in the next few days. I’m sure civil society groups, lawyers groups, and even the private sector will also support this move.” Hindi pa pinagbobotohan sa plenaryo ng Kamara de Representantes ang impeachment complaint laban kay Sereno. Hinihintay ng liderato ng Kamara na maging pinal ang desisyon ng SC para hindi na kailanganin pa ang impeachment sa pagtanggal kay Sereno.
