TEARY-EYED ang wife ni Ice Seguerra na si Liza Diño, Chairperson ng Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), sa kanyang opening speech sa grand presscon of Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino.

“It started as a project that I never thought would really happen. Siguro dahil I came with no prejudice. Alam naman po natin kung gaano ka-divisive ang industriya natin ngayon. This is the challenge, right now. Ang hirap po na napakarami nating faction dito. And for us to be able to unite everyone is the biggest task of it all really, aside from the programs that we we’re doing.

“I have to come in without prejudice and talk to our partners and our stakeholders. Lahat po tayo na naniniwala na para sumulong ang pelikula natin ay kailangan po nating magtrabaho and kailangan natin to work together.

“I came in with no prejudice and talk to cinema owners and they agreed. We found commonalities in what we’re doing,” she said, her voice almost cracking and on the verge of crying.

PPP is a partnership with all theaters in the country and kicks off the season with returning Selection Committee Members editor Manet Dayrit, cinematographer Lee Briones, and director Joey Reyes with two new members – Carlitos Siguion-Reyna and Cherie Gil.

There’s the Film Industry Conference (FIC), a two-day conference that offers both local and international perspectives on how to further strengthen Filipino filmmaking to be held from Aug. 17-18, 2018. The eight selected films will be announced by the first week of July 2018.
