SINAMPAHAN ng tax evasion ng Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) ang online news outlet na Rappler sa Department of Justice (DOJ) matapos umanong hindi magbayad ng tamang buwis noong 2015.
Kabilang sa mga sinampahan ng kaso ay ang mga opisyal ng Rappler Holdings Corporation (RHC) na sina RHC president Maria A. Ressa, at RHC treasurer James C. Bitanga.
Base sa reklamo, bumili ang RHC ng shares mula sa Rappler Inc. na nagkakahalaga ng P19.2 milyon at nagbenta ng Philippine Depositary Receipts (PDRs) sa dalawang banyagang kampanya na nagkakahalaga ng P181.7 milyon.
Pumalag naman si Ressa sa inihaing tax evasion.
“This is clear intimidation and harassment. The government is wasting its energy and resources in an attempt to silence reporting that do not please the administration,” sabi ni Ressa.
