Sereno sa mga kritiko: Hayaan nyo akong magkaroon ng araw sa Senado
“Give me my day at the Senate.”
Ito ang palabang sinabi ni Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno, matapos humarap sa publiko sa unang pagkakataon sa Baguio City isang araw matapos siyang magdesisyon sumailalim sa indefinite leave para makapaghanda sa nakatakdang impeachment trial.
Sa kanyang talumpati sa harap ng mga hukom, abogado at mga estudante na nag-aabogasya sa University of Baguio, kinuwestiyon ni Sereno ang mga panawagan na siya ay magbitiw kung tiyak ng mga nagsusulong ng kanyang impeachment na siya ay puno ng kasalanan.
“I do not hold anyone the duty to resign. I owe the people the duty to tell my story,” sabi ni Sereno.
Ito’y matapos ang mga panawagan na magbitiw siya sa puwesto.
“I ask only one thing from the political leaders, only one thing, give me my day at the Senate or admit that there is no probable cause,” dagdag ni Sereno.
Ayon pa kay Sereno, dapat irespeto ang proseso ng impeachment.
“It is when hope seems to be at its dimmest that you must be at your bravest,” ayon pa kay Sereno.
