‘Kris magiging magaling at tapat na senador!’

Ronnie Carrasco III - November 27, 2017 - 12:30 AM

ISANG nagngangalang Lulu Mendez leads a group in support of Kris Aquino’s senatorial bid, ‘yun ay kung may balak ang huli na tumakbo sa Senado sa darating na 2019 mid-term national elections.

All over Facebook ang panawagang ‘yon ni Lulu, kung saan very positive ang response ng mga netizens who believe that Kris has what it takes to be a se-nator.

Our take. Years ago ay naulinigan na namin ang planong ‘yon ni Kris, or at least ang plano ng kanyang mga supporters egging her on to try national politics. ‘Yun nga lang, never had Kris issued any statement of approval, pakiwari nami’y she was so immersed into her TV hosting job that politics back then wasn’t (yet) in her scheme of things.

Kung kami ang tatanungin (alangan naman si Mocha Uson?), we honestly believe that Kris makes a good and effective senator for a lot of obvious reasons.

Pinakauna sa mga dahilang ‘yon ay ang pagiging matalino ni Kris born to parents—most especially the late Sen. Ninoy Aquino—na parehong matalino. Hindi man nakuha ni Kris ang oratorical skills ng kanyang ama, but she’s articulate anyway.

Kung ang hanap din lang ng electorate ay isang namumuno nang hindi kailanman mabubutasan for being corrupt or corruptible—or both—Kris is a perfect choice for the 12-man lineup.

Huwag sana nating tingnan ang pagiging Dilawan ni Kris or her being identified with PNoy. Sa usapin tungkol sa kung paano uusad ang isang bayan, there should little if not no room for “political color co-ding.”

Ang pagiging isang honest citizen din ni Kris—sa pama-magitan ng pagbabayad ng tamang buwis—should also be taken into account. Oo nga’t mayaman naman si Kris, pero we bet, hindi lahat ng mga mayayaman sa bansa are honest in paying their taxes.

Fast forward. We can just imagine what the august halls of the Senate would be like kung isa sa mga nakaupo roon ay si Kris.

May mga kaartehan man pero matatabunan ‘yon ng mga makabuluhan niyang take on national issues.

May pagsingit man o reference sa kanyang personal experiences, she can make them sound of national interest.

For sure, too, her office would be understaffed. Researchers lang ang iha-hire niya, not speech writers because of her natural gift in writing.

Isa si dating Senador Ninoy sa mga Pangulo that this nation never had, he—wherever he may be—might as well pass it on to his daughter. Pero hanggang senador lang, ha?

Apat na tulog na lang at masasaksihan na ang mala-king—yet at a smaller venue—pagtatanghal billed as “Ang Hurado at Ang Kilabot” sa Museum Museum.

Dec. 2, Sabado ay kaabang-abang ang inihandang repertoire nina Rey Valera at Hajji Alejandro as they’re joined by Dulce (the Diva of All Divas) in yet a-nother noteworthy concert.

Nasa high school pa kami when they all hit it big sa larangan ng Pinoy music.

Ang maganda pa rito, all their songs are able to cross ge-nerations. No oldies, no millennials, nagsanib ang mga henerasyong ito like a marriage between the old and the modern.
