Pilipinas napiling host ng FIBA 3×3 World Cup 2018
ISASAGAWA sa Pilipinas ang FIBA 3×3 World Cup 2018.
Ito ang inihayag ng internasyonal na asosasyon sa basketball na FIBA kung saan kinumpirma nito ang Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) na siyang mag-oorganisa sa ikalimang edisyon ng prestihiyosong torneo na para sa mga 3×3 national teams.
Isa ang Pilipinas sa mga pioneer sa pagpapalaganap at pagpapalakas sa 3×3 basketball matapos itong magsilbing host ng dalawang edisyon ng FIBA 3×3 World Tour noong 2014 at 2015.
Binitbit naman ng mga PBA players sina Terrence Romeo at Calvin Abueva ang Pilipinas sa FIBA 3×3 World Tour Final.
“We are very proud and honored to be hosting the FIBA 3×3 World Cup next year,” sabi ni SBP executive director Sonny Barrios.
“Our two previous experiences hosting FIBA 3×3 events have been a success and 3×3 has become a centerpiece of our development program.”
Lahat ng laro sa FIBA 3×3 World Cup 2018 ay isasagawa sa iisang court tampok ang 20 men’s at 20 women’s teams na sasabak sa team event at tatlong individual contest na men’s dunk contest kabilang ang isang professional dunkers, women’s skills contest at mixed shootout contest.
“We are delighted to bring the FIBA 3×3 World Cup to the Philippines,” sabi naman ni FIBA 3×3 managing director Alex Sanchez.
“We are positive SBP and the passionate Filipino fans will make it an unbelievable experience for the best 3×3 players in the world and everyone watching on all platforms.”
Ang pagpili sa mga koponan para sa torneo ay base sa FIBA 3×3 Federation Ranking na cut-off date sa Nobyembre 1, 2017. Kabilang sa ranking ang sport and development criteria, na magbibigay sa kapwa malalakas na koponan sa labanan pati na rin ang pinakaaktibong bansa na lumalahok sa mga event, na natutugunan ang pangunahing hangarin ng 3×3 na diversity.
Mahigit sa 30 magkakaibang bansa at teritoryo ang irerepresenta sa aktibidad.
Ang Serbia ang nagtatanggol na kampeon sa men at Czech Republic sa women bilang FIBA 3×3 World Champions matapos magwagi sa FIBA 3×3 World Cup 2016 sa Guangzhou, China.
Ang 2017 edisyon ng FIBA 3×3 World Cup ay isasagawa naman sa Nantes, France sa Hunyo 17-21.
