UAAP Season 79 best athletes bibigyang parangal
PARARANGALAN bukas ng University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) ang mga atleta nito na hindi lamang nagbigay prestihiyo sa kani-kanilang mga unibersidad kundi pati na rin sa Pilipinas bago ang Game 2 ng salpukan sa pagitan ng magkaribal na Ateneo de Manila University at De La Salle University sa Araneta Coliseum.
Una sa bibigyan ng rekognisyon ang mga UAAP student-athletes na nagpartisipa sa mga internasyonal na torneo tulad ng ASEAN University Games 2016 sa Singapore kung saan lumahok ang liga sa swimming, table tennis, men at women’s volleyball, track and field, fencing at maging sa sumabak sa Rio Olympic Games sa Brazil.
Natatanging nakapagkuwalipika sa Rio Olympics sina Ian Lariba, na pinakaunang atleta mula sa table tennis na nakatuntong sa kada apat na taong prestihiyosong torneo, kasama ang two-time Olympian na si Jessie Khing Lacuna ng Ateneo.
Tampok sa seremonya ang paggawad ng karangalan sa men’s basketball kung saan tinanghal na Most Valuable Player si Ben Mbala ng La Salle (92.4286). Ang Rookie of the Year ay si Aljun Melecio ng La Salle (36.5714) habang nasa Mythical Five sina Mbala (92.4286), Jeron Teng ng La Salle (57.3333) Raymar Jose ng FEU (53.6429), Andres Paul Desiderio ng UP (55.1429) at Ferdinand “Thirdy” Ravena III ng Ateneo (49.1429).
Muling tinanghal na women Most Valuable Player si Afril Bernardino ng NU (91.8571) habang wala pang napili na Rookie of the Year. Ang Mythical Five sa women ay si Jack Danielle Animan ng NU (72.2143), Gemma Miranda ng NU (79.4615), Mary Snow April Penaranda ng DLSU (58.6429) , Love Sto. Domingo ng UE (71.3571) at Bernardino.
May parangal din sina Axel Toni Steven Ngui, Alberto Batungbacal, Eman Nuellito Dapat, Giancarlo Silva, Hannah Dato, Ariana Herranz at Romina Rafaelle Gavino ng Ateneo kasama sina Joy Rodgers at Winona Nadine Tee Ten ng UP at si Arian Neil Puyo ng La Salle.
Kabilang sa table tennis sina Daniel Robert Ocon, Donna Marie Gamilla, Emy Rose Dael, Francis Garganian, Ian Lariba, Ina Alleli Co, Jamaica Dianne Sy, Jerald Cristobal, Jeremy Simone Ruiz, Jethro Reuel Yatco, Lauro Crisostomo at Mardeline Carreon mula sa La Salle.
Ang men’s volleyball ay binubuo nina Ysrael Wilson Marasigan, Karl Irvin Baysa, Rex Emmanuel Intal, Joshua Alexis Miguel Villanueva, Marck Jesus Espejo, Esmilzo Joner Polvorosa, Jasper Rodney Tan, Manuel Sumanguid III, Lawrence Gil Magadia, Gian Carlo Glorioso at Paulo Lorenzo Trinidad ng Ateneo.
Ang women’s volleyball ay kinabibilangan nina Alyssa Valdez, Jhoana Louisse Maraguinot, Ma. Gizelle Jessica Tan, Michelle Kathereen Morente, Julia Melissa Morado, Kassandra Miren Gequillana, Jamie Isabelle Lavitoria, Isabel Beatriz de Leon, Pauline Marie Monique Gaston, Bettina Andrea Paz Abella, Deanna Izabella Wong at Ana Laureen Gopico.
