Bukod sa Women’s and Children’s desk sa mga presinto ng pulisya, maglalagay na rin ng help and protection desk para sa mga lesbian, gays, bisexual and transgender.
Nagkasundo ang House committee on public order and safety at National Police Commission na magtayo ng LGBT desk sa mga himpilan ng pulisya bilang tugon sa House bill 2952 na akda ni Batangas Rep. Vilma Santos-Recto.
Ayon sa showbiz personality-turned politician, ang mga LGBT ay naging target ng diskriminasyon at pananakit na nakakaapekto sa kanilang pamumuhay.
“Many LGBT victims opt not to report the incident for fear of further harassment, prejudicial treatment, or more violent reprisal. The Philippines should not condone an environment where the LGBT community is treated with contempt and violence by their fellow citizens while authorities empowered to protect them look the other way or, too often, even join in the abuses,” ani Santos-Recto.
Sa ilalim ng panukala ni Santos-Recto ang LGBT help desk ang siyang hahawak sa mga kaso na may kinalaman sa pagyurak sa pagkatao, sexual harassment at pang-aabuso sa third sex.
“Ultimately, this bill seeks to create a police organization that is able and eager to respond to any criminal or emergency incident, regardless of the gender orientation of the people involved.”
