11,000 sasabak sa Batang Pinoy sa Tagum

MAGSASAMA-SAMA sa loob ng isang linggo sa Tagum City ang mahigit 11,000 atleta para sa national championships ng Batang Pinoy simula Nobyembre 27 hanggang Disyembre 2.
Tampok dito ang 600 events sa 26 sports disciplines para sa mga atletang may edad 17-anyos pababa.
Ito ang unang multi-sport national tournament na isasagawa sa ilalim ng liderato ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte.
Sinabi ni PSC commissioner Celia Kiram sa liingguhang Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum sa Shakey’s Malate kahapon na naipaabot na kay Presidente Duterte ang imbitasyon bilang guest of honor sa opening ceremony ng Batang Pinoy finals na pinaglaanan ng P50 milyong pondo.
“May possibility na dumating siya. Hopefully, the event will be graced by the President,” sabi ni Kiram.
Hindi na isinagawa ang qualifying legs ngayong taon kumpara sa nakalipas na taon matapos na magpalit ng liderato ang PSC sa pangunguna ni chairman William ‘Butch’ Ramirez nito lamang Hunyo.
“Since bago lang kami, one national tournament muna this year and then pag-aaralan further kung will be holding different legs in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao next year,” sabi ng tanging babaeng commissioner sa PSC Board.
Ipinaliwanag ni Batang Pinoy program director Larry Domingo Jr. na tumaas ang bilang ng delegasyon ngayong taon matapos ang desisyon ng ahensiya ng gobyerno na iangat ang age bracket mula sa dating limit na 15-anyos.
“Medyo marami ngayon because of that, at nagdagdag tayo ng events based on age, bracketing, and then weight categories,” sabi ni Domingo. —Angelito Oredo
