San Beda ginulat ang Arellano sa NCAA chess

GINULAT ng San Beda College ang reigning back-to-back champion Arellano University, 3-1, nitong weekend para mapanatili ang liderato sa 92nd NCAA seniors chess competition sa Jose Rizal University Gym.

Binigo nina Alcon John Datu at Bryan Barcelon ng San Beda sina Carlo Caranyagan at Joshua Arias ng Arellano sa ikalawa at ikaapat na board. Nangunguna ngayon ang Red Lions na may kabuuang 14.5 puntos. Nauwi naman sa draw ang mga laban nina Mari Joseph Turqueza at McDominique Lagula laban kina Kyz Llantada and Don Tyrone delos Santos sa board 1 at 3, ayon sa pagkasunod, para ibigay sa San Beda ang panalo.

Sa ibang laro, tinalo ng Lyceum of the Philippines ang College of St. Benilde, 3-1, para manatili sa pangalawang puwesto na may 12.5 puntos. Tinisod naman ng Letran ang Perpetual Help, 3.5-.5, para umakyat sa third spot na may 11.5 points.
Ang Arellano, na ginagabayan ni coach Rudy Ibanez, ay bumagsak sa ikaapat na puwesto na may 11 puntos.
