Sereno posibleng ipa-subpoena, ipaaresto

    Matapos busalan ang mga abugado, pinag-iisipan ng House committee on justice na ipa-subpoena si Supreme Court Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno sa pagdinig ng impeachment complaint laban dito.       At sinabi ng chairman ng komite na si Oriental Mindoro Rep. Reynaldo Umali na isang posibilidad rin ang pagpapahuli kay Sereno.     “To subpoena the Chief Justice is our option being considered as of the moment because we have the constitutional mandate to perform and she (Sereno) as a constitutional officer should honor and comply with that. Remember, that is (issuing a subpoena) our coercive power to compel her presence,” ani Umali.     Inamin naman ni Umali na maaaring magkaroon ng constitutional crisis ang pag-subpoena at pagpapaaresto kay Sereno dahil sa separation of powers ng Legislative at Judiciary.       “The issue of constitutional crisis may arise of course here. But in the spirit of fairness, we want her to answer the allegations in the impeachment complaint,” ani Umali.     Sinabi ni Umali na maaari ring hindi nila matapos ang pagdinig sa impeachment complaint hanggang sa Disyembre 13, ang huling araw ng sesyon ngayong taon.     “I am afraid that we might not be able to vote on the committee report this December 13 or the day when we adjourn for the holidays,” ani Umali.     Noong Miyerkules ay ibinasura ng komite ang hiling ni Sereno na payagan ang kanyang mga abugado na makapagtanong sa mga testigo at ebidensya na ihaharap laban sa kanya.
