Petecio pasok sa ASBC Asian Women’s Championships finals

MATAPOS ang isang araw na pahinga ay nagpakita ng ibayong sigla at lakas si Nesthy Petecio ng Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur para magwagi sa semifinal round noong Miyerkules at pumasok sa finals kagabi sa ASBC Asian Women’s Championships  sa Wulanchabu Sports Gymnasium sa Wulanchabu, China.

Sa semis ay binigo ni Petecio si Basumatary Pwilao,  isa sa anim na boxers ng India na umusad sa semis.

“Malakas siya at nakita ko na lugi ako sa dikitan kaya nilaro ko sa labas,” sabi ng 23-anyos na si Petecio.

“I also saw her right straights coming, so I guess she also got a bit frustrated when I was able to avoid them and then score on my counterpunches.”

Bumanat nang husto si Petecio sa round four nang tumama sa kalaban ang halos lahat ng kanyang pinakawalang kaliwa’t kanang suntok tungo sa unanimous decision win.

Todo cheer naman sa sideline ang tatlong Pinay na maagang namaalam sa torneo na sina Josie Gabuco, Irish Magno at Riza Pasuit kasama si ABAP executive director Ed Picson.

May tsansa si Petecio na manalo ng ginto matapos na makapag-uwi ng dalawang pilak sa 2015 Singapore Southeast Asian Games at sa 2014 Women’s World Championships sa Jeju, Korea.

Itinakda kagabi ang gold medal match kung saan nakasagupa ni Petecio si Peamwilai Laopeam ng Thailand.

Sina Petecio at  Laopeam ay may 1-1 head-to-head record. Nagwagi si  Laopeam sa 2011 Palembang SEA Games at nakabawi naman si Petecio sa 2014 China Open.

Kasama rin ng delegasyon ng bansa dito ang mga coach na sina Roel Velasco at Mitchel Martinez.

May kabuuang 96 boxers mula 16 bansa sa Asia ang lumahok sa torneo na ito.
