Pinas bigo sa China sa Asian U23 volleyball

NAGBIGAY ng magandang laban ang Pilipinas sa 1st Asian Under-23 Women’s Volleyball Championship nang manalo ito sa unang set laban sa powerhouse China team bago yumuko, 25-23, 14-25, 18-25, 16-25, sa quarterfinal round kagabi sa Philsports Arena, Pasig City.

Ang 6-foot-2 na si Liu Yanhan ay mayroong 21 puntos, tampok ang18 kills habang sina Yixin Zhen at Fang Duan ay naghatid pa ng 13 at 11 puntos para umabante ang China sa semifinals.

May 17 kills si Alyssa Valdez habang ang 6-foot-5 na si Jaja Santiago ay naghatid ng 16 puntos mula sa 10 kills at tig-tatlong blocks at aces para sa Pinas. Pero bumigay ang Nationals nang naging agresibo ang China para maitala ang karamihan sa 30 errors sa huling tatlong sets.

“Kahit natalo tayo ay history pa rin ito dahil first time tayo na nanalo ng isang set sa China,” may pagmamalaki ni national coach Roger Gorayeb.

Bumaba sa consolation round ang host country at makakalaban ang Chinese Taipei alas-12 ng tanghali ngayon. Ang mananalo ay aabante para sa battle for fifth place habang ang matatalo ay lalaban na lamang para sa ikapitong puwesto.
