HINDI ininda ng San Miguel Beer ang kakulangan sa big men laban sa Barangay Ginebra matapos na magbida si June Mar Fajardo para sa Beermen na naungusan ang Gin Kings, 79-77, sa kanilang 2014-15 PBA Philippine Cup game kahapon sa Araneta Coliseum sa Cubao, Quezon City.

Si Fajardo ay nagtala ng 21 puntos, 15 rebounds at apat na blocks para tulungan ang Beermen na wakasan din ang three-game winning streak ng Gin Kings.

“It was three versus one,” sabi ni San Miguel coach Leo Austria matapos na maagaw ng Beermen ang ikalawang puwesto sa 5-1 kartada. “He was anticipating this game. Both teams went to their big men and June Mar is really our go-to-guy.”

Ang naghaharing season MVP na si Fajardo, na ipinagdiriwang ang ika-25 kaarawan ngayon, at  ang dating MVP na si Arwind Santos ay nagawang makipagsabayan sa matangkad na frontline ng Gin Kings kung saan kinamada nila ang huling pitong puntos ng Beermen na nakatulong para hindi tumiklop ang San Miguel sa huling yugto.

Hawak ng San Miguel ang 13-puntos na kalamangan sa kaagahan ng ikaapat na yugto at angat pa ng pitong puntos papasok sa huling dalawang minuto ng laro nang magsagawa ang Gin Kings ng ratsada sa pamumumo ni 7-foot center Greg Slaughter at dating MVP na si Jay-Jay Helterbrand.

Pinangunahan ni Santos ang Beermen sa kinamadang 22 puntos at siyam na rebounds.

Si Slaughter ay gumawa ng 16 puntos at 18 rebounds para pamunuan ang Ginebra.
