RAIN OR SHINE-ALASKA SEMIS DUEL UMPISA NA

ITATAYA ng nagbabagang Rain or Shine at Alaska Milk ang kani-kanilang winning streak sa kanilang salpukan sa Game One ng best-of-five semifinals ng PLDT Home Telpad PBA Governors’ Cup mamayang alas-8 ng gabi sa Smart Araneta Coliseum sa Cubao, Quezon City.

Winakasan ng Elasto Painters ang elims sa pamamagitan ng five-game winning streak bago tinambakan ang Air21, 111-90, sa quarterfinals noong Miyerkules.

Sa kabilang dako, nagwagi naman ang Aces sa huling tatlong games nila sa elims bago dinaig ang crowd-favorite Barangay Ginebra sa quarterfinals, 92-81, nito ring Miyerkules.

Bahagyang pinapaboran ang Rain or Shine dahil sa tinambakan nito ang Alaska Milk, 123-72, sa kanilang pagkikita sa elims noong Hunyo 4. Iyon ang huling kabiguang nalasap ng Aces na ngayon ay hawak ni coach Alex Compton.

“That was one of those games wherein we couldn’t do anything wrong. That loss could happen to anyone or any team. But it’s not in Alaska’s character, We have a high respect for Alaska,” ani Rain or Shine coach Joseller “Yeng” Guiao.

Sa larong iyon, ang Rain or Shine ay pinamunuan ng import na si Arizona Reid na nagtala ng career-high 48 puntos.

Ngayo’y nasa ikatlong pagkakataon bilang import ng Rain or Shine ay hangad ni Reid na maihatid sa Finals ang Elasto Painters. Sa unang dalawang pagkakataon bilang import ay pawang semis lang ang narating ng Rain or Shine.

Ayon naman kay Compton ay nakaganda sa Alaska Milk ang pagkatalo sa Rain or Shine dahil iyon ay nagsilbing “wake-up call for us. We were jolted. That’s why we played well from there on. We hope to continue playing well.”

Sinabi ni Compton na sa apat na coaches sa semifinals kabilang sina Norman Black ng Talk ‘N Text at Tim Cone ng San Mig, siya ang may pinakakaunting karanasan. Sa kabila nito ay marami siyang manlalarong maaasahan.

“Those three coaches have more than 30 championships among themselves. I have none. But I believe in my players,” ani Compton.
