Ni John Roson SUGATAN ang anim na sundalo nang masabugan ng bomba habang tinutugis ang mga “lawless elements” sa Sumisip, Basilan, Lunes ng umaga. Kinilala ni Major Harold Cabunoc, tagapagsalita ng Army, ang anim bilang sina Cpl. Jonathan Candias, Pfc. John Mark Cac, Pfc. Domingo Lungao, Pfc. Jesus Dacutanan, Pfc. Garry Soriano, at Pfc. Wenefredo Cornelio. Ang mga sugatan, kung saan dalawa ay nasa kritikal na kondisyon, ay pawang mga miyembro ng 4th Scout Ranger Battalion, ayon naman kay Lt. Col. Randolph Cabangbang, tagapagsalita ng Armed Forces Western Mindanao Command. Naglalakad ang platoon ng Scout Rangers patungo sa isang “objective” malapit sa Brgy. Baiwas dakong alas-8, nang sumabog ang bomba, ayon kay Cabangbang. “The soldiers were tracking a group of bandits believed to be led by Furuji Indama and Hassan Asnawi who were eluding government forces around Mt. Abong-abong,” ani Cabunoc. Nagpadala ng dalawang UH-1H helicopter mula sa Edwin Andrews Air Base ng Zamboanga City pasado alas-9 para dalhin sa ospital ang mga sugatan, ayon kay Cabangbang.
