NANGANGAMBA ang isang militanteng mambabatas na unti-unti nang mawawala ang mga unlimited text and call promo dahil sa pagpayag ng National Telecommunications Commission sa merger ng Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co., at Digitel Telecommunication Phils. Inc.
Sinabi ni Bayan Muna Rep. Teddy Casino na labag sa Konstitusyon ang merger dahil aakyat na sa 71 porsyento ang pagmamay-ari ng PLDT sa industrya ng telekomunikasyon.
Ang may-ari ng PLDT, ang negosyanteng si Manny V. Pangilinan, ay siya ring nagmamay-ari ng Meralco, Maynilad, Channel 5, North Luzon Expressway, at mga pribadong ospital.
“Pagmamay-ari po ng PLDT ang Smart Communications, Red Mobile, Piltel Talk ‘n Text at iba pa. Kontrolado nito ang 58 porysento g merkado. Kapag pinayagan itong bilhin ang Digitel-Sun Cellular, mapapasakamay na ng PLDT ang 71 porsyento ng buong telecommunications market,” ani Casiño.
Sinabi ni Casiño na noong araw na PLDT ang may monopolyo ng telekomunikasyon, masama na ang serbisyo, mahal pa ang bayad.
Sa ilalim ng kasunduan, maaaring limitahan ng PLDT ang unlimited text and call plans ng Sun Cellular, na pagmamay-ari ng Digitel.
“And with Sun out of the way, nothing will stop PLDT-owned Smart Communications from conniving with Globe Telecom in raising rates the way they always wanted it to happen. There will be nothing to stop PLDT from using its enormous market power to strangle the competition or bend them to its will,” dagdag pa ng solon.
