PARA mas maraming overseas Filipino workers ang makaboto, pinag-aaralan sa Kamara de Representantes ang panukalang internet absentee voting.
Sa pagdinig ng House committees on foreign affairs, suffrage and electoral reforms, sinabi ni Election commissioner Armando Velasco na ang internet voting ay isang paraan para mas madaling makaboto ang mga OFW.
Pinag-aaralan ng mga komite na amyendahan ang Overseas Absentee Voting law (Republic Act 9189) upang mapataas ang bilang ng mga OFW na bumoboto.
Pero dapat umanong mapag-aralan ng mabuti ang panukala upang masiguro na hindi madadaya ang mga boto lalo at maaaring makaapekto ang resulta ng Absentee Voting sa resulta ng halalan.
Sinabi naman ni Cagayan de Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez na marami ang hindi bumoboto sa kasalukuyang paraan ng Absentee Voting.
“OFWs should be allowed to vote via Internet. That is what we should do now instead of using the regular mailing system.”
Ayon kay House committee on foreign affairs chairman Francis Bichara 233,000 OFWs lamang sa 324,154 nagparehistro ang bumoto noong 2010 presidential elections.
Milyon-milyon ang mga OFW na nagtatrabaho sa iba’t ibang bansa subalit konti lamang ang nagpaparehistro. “Given these figures the overseas absentee voting system seems to be a failure. In principle, we have allowed our overseas Filipino workers the chance to take part in our democratic processes of choosing their leaders but the provisions of the law have disenfranchised over 90 percent of qualified overseas Filipinos to exercise their right to vote,” ani Bichara. – Leifbilly Begas
