Nagbahagi ng ilang detalye ang hunk actor tungkol sa paghihiwalay nila ni Barbie at kung bakit nagdesisyon silang tapusin na ang kanilang pagsasama.
Unang dahilan ni Diego, hindi na raw healthy ang kanilang relationship, “Ang dami nang pangyayari. Every time it (hindi pagkakaintindihan) would happen, we would check each other out in the relationship and be, like, ‘Are we sure we still want this? Are we sure we’re still in the right track?’”
Sa panayam ng programang “All Out!” sa RX. 93.1 FM nitong Lunes, June 6, sinabi ni Diego na sinubukan din nila ni Barbie na i-save ang kanilang pagsasama nang mag-break sila noong December, 2021.
“When we reached the point bandang December, we reassessed and we were parang we’re not helping each other grow anymore.
“And we both came to the agreement na ‘We’re not good for each other right now, so I think it’s better (to break up),” aniya.

Ipinaliwanag din niya kung bakit sila nagkita uli sa isang restaurant sa Pasig City noong March, 2022, na inakala ng lahat na nagbalikan na sila. Ito yung time na kauuwi lamang ng binata mula sa mahabang bakasyon sa Amerika.
“We discussed yung honesty talaga, ‘What happened while you were away? Ikaw naman, what did you do here while I was away? Kaya pa ba natin or hindi?’
“We tried, we did. We really did try. We tried, like, see, ‘Kaya pa ba natin?’ And hindi pa rin, e.
“Like, I really feel like I’m gonna stop her from growing if this continues and the same, vice versa talaga,” kuwento ni Diego.

“May feeling na may competition, in a way, because we’re both artists, and as our industry is, it’s unspoken.
“Pero there’s always some sort of underlying competition in everything that we do.
“And I don’t think that was healthy. I think that attributed to the reasons why we would fight, why we wouldn’t understand each other, or see things eye to eye.
“It’s not really because we got jealous of one another. It was more of this is not a healthy relationship. As much as we love each other, things aren’t going the way that they should be,” paliwanag pa ng hunk actor.
Samantala, sa nasabi ring panayam inamin ni Diego na nagde-date sila ng dating “Pinoy Big Brother” housemate na si Franki Russel.
Ang unang sabi niya nang matanong tungkol dito ay, “Franki and I are not a thing.” Paliwanag ni Diego, nang interbyuhin siya about it, 10 days pa lang silang magkakilala ng dalaga.
“We’ve known each other for 10 days, we’re not a thing,” katuwiran ng aktor. Who am I to say… I can’t give a label that we’re something right now, na kami na, ganu’n. I can’t.
“Ang kapal naman ng mukha ko kung sabihin ko kami na, di ba? I haven’t even asked her. We’ve just been seeing each other. But noon iyon. Iba ngayon,” pahayag pa niya.
Sey pa ni Diego, “I’m a hypocrite. I said I wanted to focus on myself, but I guess these things you don’t expect it, e. It just really comes along.
“Ever since meeting up with her, hanging out with her, it hasn’t stopped. We really did click. So, I would definitely say that we’re dating,” pag-amin pa ni Diego.
