Pinoy ‘weightlifting fairy’ Hidilyn Diaz tatanggap ng P33-M para sa nasungkit na Olympic gold medal

NAGPIYESTA ang buong sambayanang Filipino, kabilang na ang mga kilalang celebrities sa pagkapanalo ng tinaguriang “weightlifting fairy” na si Hidilyn Diaz sa ginaganap na 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Lumikha ng kasaysayan si Hidilyn matapos masungkit ang kauna-unahang Olympic gold medal ng Pilipinas makalipas ang 97 taong  paghihintay.

Wagi ang 30-year-old Pinoy athlete na tubong-Zamboanga sa women’s 55-kg weightlifting event kung saan nabuhat niya nang bonggang-bongga ang 127kg sa kanyang huling attempt sa clean and jerk para sa kabuuang total na 224kg.

Tinalo ni Hidilyn sa labanang ito ang world-record holder na si Liao Qiuyun (223kg total) mula sa China kung saan ang dalawang final tally niya sa clean and jerk category at ang kanyang overall total ay gumawa ng bagong Olympic records.

At dahil sa nakuha niyang gold sa weightlifting event ay posibleng umabot na sa mahigit P33 million ang kanyang matatanggap na pabuya. 

Bukod sa P10 million na ibibigay sa kanya ng pamahalaan (base sa Republic Act No. 10699 ang isang Filipino Olympic gold medalist ay tatanggap ng P10 million, habang P5 million sa silver at P2 million sa bronze), magbibigay din daw ng P10 million pabuya si Ramon Ang ng San Miguel Corporation.

May pledge rin daw na P10 million ang business tycoon na si Manuel Pangilinan sa pamamagitan ng kanyang MVP Sports Foundation at P3 million naman ang pangako ni Deputy Speaker Mikee Romero para sa mga gold medalists.

Sabi naman ni Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) President Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino sa isang panayam na magbibigay siya ng house and lot sa mga mag-uuwi ng gold medals.

May ilan pang grupo na nangako ng cash incentives para sa mga atletang Pinoy na makakasungkit ng gintong medalya.

Samantala, bumuhos naman ang mensahe ng pagbati sa sikat na sikat ngayong sergeant ng Philippine Air Force mula sa mga Filipino all over the universe, kabilang na nga ang mga kilalang personalidad.

Pagbati ng broadcast journalist na si Karen Davila, “WOOHOO!!! Congratulations @diaz_hidilyn! Just the inspiration we needed today!”

Proud na proud din ang Kapamilya actress na si Janine Gutierrez, “Hidilyn Diaz winning the first ever gold medal for the Philippines is the hero we need on SONA day!”

Sey naman ni Anne Curtis, “Nakakaiyak! What a proud moment for the Philippines! Thank you @diaz_hidilyn. I’m sure you’ve sparked a fire in little girls, in fact, in all children across the country that with hard work & dedication they can fulfill their biggest dreams! MARAMING SALAMAT!”

“The most emotional part was hearing our National Anthem being played. Nic and I stood, hands on hearts, and cried. Mabuhay ka, @Diaz_Hidilyn!” ang pagbati naman ng Pinay international star na si Lea Salonga.
