Naghain ng reklamo ang isang homeowners association sa Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) kaugnay sa umano’y monopolyo ng isang internet service provider sa kanilang subdivision sa Molino 4, Bacoor, Cavite.
Ayon kay Toteng Tanglao, presidente ng Cerritos Heights Homeowners Association Inc. (CHHAI), nagsumite sila ng liham sa National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) para hilingin ang pagkakaroon ng ibang internet service provider, bukod sa Planet Cable, sa kanilang subdivision subalit sa halip na aksiyunan ay ipinasa ito sa PCC.
Sinabi ni Tanglao na pahirapan din ang pagtugon ng PCC sa kanilang isinumiteng liham.
“Sumulat din kami sa NTC, ang sabi ng NTC, ‘you better refer this sa Philippine Competition Commission.’ Sumagot naman si PCC, ang sabi nila, ‘patunayan ninyo na may monopoly,’ ” pahayag ni Tanglao.
Dagdag ni Tanglao, kahit si Bacoor City Mayor Mayor Mercado-Revilla ay binalewala rin ng PCC.
“Even ‘yung reply nila kay Mayor Lani, they never replied about the monopoly, they just told them na maayos ang serbisyo ng cable, ‘yun ang kanilang style,” sabi pa niya.
Nauna nang hiniling ng CHHAI na tuldukan na ang monopolyo ng Planet Cable sa kanilang subdivision.
Sa kanilang petisyon, umapela ang grupo na payagang makapasok ang ibang internet service providers upang magkaroon ng ‘back up’ internet sakaling mawalan ng koneksiyon ang Planet Cable.
Aniya, mahalaga ang magkaroon ng back-up internet connection lalo na ngayon na karamihan sa homeowners ay work from home at ang mga estudyante ay gumagamit ng online at blended learning.
“We wish to assert our right to enjoy the benefits of competition, especially in getting the best possible internet provider. The need for reliable connectivity is even more pronounced today, especially as the uncertainty over the COVID-19 pandemic is forcing everyone to adapt to the new normal. This means work-from-home is no longer an option but a requirement in order to keep jobs. Students will also transition to online learning because this is now part of the Philippine education system,” nakasaad sa petisyon ng homeowners.
Noong 2020 pa inihain ng homeowners ang petisyon subalit hanggang ngayon ay hindi pa rin ito naaaksiyunan ng mga kinauukulang ahensiya, ayon kay Tanglao.
