Bagong variant ng COVID-19, na-detect sa Pilipinas – DOH

Kinumpirma ng Department of Health (DOH) at Philippine Genome Center (PCG) na mayroong na-detect na unang kaso ng B.1.1.7.SARS-CoV-2 variant (UK variant) sa Pilipinas.

Sa inilabas na pahayag, sinabi ng kagawaran na na lumabas na positibo sa bagong variant ng Covid-19 ang isang Filipino na dumating mula sa United Arab Emirates (UAE) noong Enero 7.

Umalis patungong Dubai ang lalaking pasyente, residente ng Quezon City, noong December 27, 2020 para sa business purposes at bumalik ng bansa noong Enero 7 sa pamamagitan ng Emirates Flight No. EK 332.

Sumailalim sa swab test at quarantine sa isang hotel ang pasyente pagkadating ng bansa.

“The positive test result was released the following day and the patient was referred to a quarantine facility in Quezon City while his samples were sent to PGC for whole genome sequencing,” saad pa ng DOH.

Kasama ng pasyente ang kanyang babaeng partner sa buong trip ngunit nagnegatibo ito sa SARS-CoV-2 pagkadating ng bansa.

Gayunman, mahigpit pa rin itong binabantayan habang nakasailalim sa quarantine.

Ayon pa sa DOH, kapwa walang exposure ang dalawang Filipino sa kumpirmadong kaso bago ang pag-alis patungong Dubai.

Wala rin itong travel activities sa labas ng Quezon City.

Agad namang nagkasa ng contact tracing katuwang ang Quezon City government upang maiwasan ang pagkalat pa nito.

“The DOH has also secured the flight manifest of the flight in question and contact tracing of other passengers is now underway. The DOH advises those who were aboard Emirates Flight No. EK 332 to get in touch with their BHERTs (Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams),” dagdag ng kagawaran.

Patuloy din ang panagawan ng DOH sa gobyerno, LGUs at sa publiko na mahigpit na sundin ang minimum public health standards at quarantine protocols.
