‘Ang Babaeng Allergic Sa Wi-fi’ ni Sue Ramirez gustong i-remake sa iba’t ibang bansa
Si FDCP Chairperson Liza Dino ang tumayong moderator with Raphael Phang, Content Acquisition Lead of Netflix Asia and filmmakers Perci Intalan and Jun Lana of Idea First as panelists.Natanong sina Perci at Jun about how they were able to meet Raphael.
“We were lucky because as Rap said, we have our films because we partnered with a lot of studios here, the studios already have a relationship with Netflix so Rap is familiar with the Idea First company because of our films with Viva and also with Regal as well,” Perci shared.
“We had the chance, I think it is because of a common friend who introduced us to Rap. And we had the chance to reach out. At that time, it was just really ‘hi!’, ‘hello!’, talk about what we’re doing now.
“I remember clearly, in one of those conversations, I just mentioned we’re working on a project of the girl allergic to wi-fi.
“And Rap, I remember, just got curious about that title and before long, we were really having serious conversations about getting Allergic to Wi-Fi (starring Sue Ramirez, Markus Paterson and Jameson Blake) on Netflix. It started really where Rap and I were talking about projects of the Idea First company,” dagdag pa ni Perci.
“My experience with them is really spectacular,” say naman ni Jun.
“I mean, when ‘Allergic sa Wi-fi,’ when that film was released here in Metro Manila, we all now that it really didn’t do well at the box-office.
“As a filmmaker, as a producer, I was really quite disappointed. I made it for a specific audience but at that time we weren’t able to get the right opportunity, just to tap in to the right audience, get them into theaters. But when we brought it to Netflix, it really found its audience there,” chika pa niya.
Naging successful ang streaming ng nasabing movie sa Netflix as “it did not just expose it to an instant global audience.”
“What’s more important is that it was able to bring the right audience to the film. When it came, I think it brought one of the popular titles on Netflix and it opened a few opportunities for us.
“We got a lot of inquiries about the international remake rights of the film. We actually close a deal with a Chinese film production. It’s been great so far,” say ni Jun.
