15K preso pinalaya ng BJMP

MAHIGIT sa 15,000 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) ang nakalaya na mula sa mga kulungan ng Bureau of Jail Management and Penology mula Marso 17 hanggang Hunyo 22.

Ayon sa Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) sa 15,322 pinalayang PDLs, 5,910 ang nasa National Capital Region; 1,557 sa CALABARZON (Region 4-A); 1,487 sa Central Visayas; 1,041 sa Central Luzon; 897 sa Zamboanga Peninsula; at 762 sa Northern Mindanao, ang iba pa ay nasa nalalabing rehiyon.

“Ang paglaya ng libo-libong PDLs ay patunay na hindi sila nakakaligtaan at hindi pinapabayaan. Patunay rin itong gumagana ang justice system sa bansa kahit pa man may pandemya,” ani DILG Secretary Eduardo Año.

Marami umano sa mga pinalaya ay matatanda na at maliliit ang kinakaharap na kaso.

“All of these PDLs were released by authority of the courts with some released in accordance with new guidelines issued by the Supreme Court because of the pandemic,” saad ng kalihim.

Patuloy naman ang pagtaas ng bilang ng mga preso na nahawa ng COVID-19. Sa 783 na nahawa gumaling na ang 549. Sa 135 tauhan ng BJMP na nagawa, 90 na ang gumaling.
