Disinfection protocol dapat bisitahin matapos mamatay ang 1 frontliner
NANAWAGAN ang EcoWaste Coalition ng mas epektibong disinfection protocol matapos masawi ang isang medical health worker matapos makasingit ng bleach disinfectant solution.
Sinabi ng EcoWaste na hindi katanggap-tanggap ang pagkamatay ni Capt. Casey Gutierrez, 31, doktor ng Philippine National Police na nakatalaga sa quarantine facility sa PhilSports Arena.
“We mourn the death of another heroic doctor on the frontline of our nation’s fight against COVID-19,” ani Thony Dizon, Chemical Safety Campaigner ng EcoWaste. “His untimely death should lead to better workplace safety protocols on decontamination to avoid a repeat of such a toxic tragedy.”
Namatay si Gutierrez noong Mayo 30 sanhi ng “massive pulmonary embolism” na dulot umano ng nasingot nitong toxic substance.
“We support a full and impartial probe on the doctor’s death led by toxicological experts from the Department of Health (DOH),” dagdag pa ni Dizon.
Ayon sa ulat, nasingot ni Gutierrez ang disinfectant solution na may sodium hypochlorite, isang caustic chemical na makikita sa bleach. Nakasuot umano siya ng personal protective equipment (PPE) at matapos tumingin sa pasyenyte ay inisprayan ng naturang solution. Dito na siya nahirapang huminga.
Ayon sa DOH Memorandum No. 2020-0157 ang mga nakasuot ng PPE ay maaaring sumailalim sa misting o spraying ng disinfectant upang mapatay ang mikrobyo na maaaring kumapit sa suot nito.
Dalawa pang frontliner sa PhilSports Arena—sina Staff Sgt. Steve Rae Salamanca at Cpl. Runie Toledo, ay dinala sa PNP General Hospital dahil nahirapang huminga matapos ang decontamination process.
