2 lumang oil rig gagawing outpost ng AFP

GAGAWING outpost ng Armed Forces ang dalawang lumang oil rig malapit sa Palawan, para bantayan ang West Philippine Sea.

“It will increase our maritime domain awareness and our operational reach,” sabi ni AFP chief Gen. Felimon Santos Jr.

Tinutukoy ni Santos ang plano ng AFP sa Nido at Matinloc platforms, na nasa hilagang-silangan ng Palawan.

Tinigil ang operasyon ng dalawang istruktura sa laot noong nakaraang Nobyembre, matapos ang apat na dekada kung saan sila nakapaglabas ng 31 milyon barrel ng langis.

Bukod sa pagiging outpost ng militar, maaari ding magamit ang dalawang istruktura bilang “shelter” o silong ng mga mangingisda at researchers tuwing masama ang panahon sa dagat, ani Santos.

Ininspeksyon ni Santos ang oil platforms nitong Huwebes, nang mag-ikot sa mga nasasakupan ng AFP Western Command.
