NCAA Season 96 posibleng buksan sa Nobyembre

MALAMANG na buksan ang ika-96th season ng National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) sa huling bahagi ng taon imbes na sa Hulyo, na siyang karaniwang buwan na nagbubukas sa panibagong collegiate sports season ng liga.

Ayon kay NCAA Management Committee chairman Peter Cayco ang darating na season opener ay posibleng maurong sa huling bahagi ng Nobyembre o Disyembre dahil na rin sa coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic sa bansa.

“We may even be into the ‘Ber’ months when we start the season. Maybe we could start at the end of November or in December,” sabi ni Cayco sa panayam ng Inquirer.

Subalit iginiit ni Cayco na hihintayin pa rin ng NCAA ang rekomendasyon mula sa Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) patungkol sa pagbubukas ng mga klase at ang pag-host ng mga mass gatherings tulad ng sporting events.

“The opening will be definitely be moved back, we just don’t know when exactly,” sabi pa ni Cayco. “We really can’t say when exactly we can start because we’ll wait for the government’s direction on when classes can start.”

Ayon naman sa isang source malamang na magsimula ang Season 96 sa taong 2021.

Tuluyang nakansela ang Season 95 nitong Marso bunga na rin ng desisyon ng pamahalaan na ipatupad ang enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) sa Luzon para matigil ang pagkalat ng COVID-19.

Ang ECQ ay inaasahang matatapos ngayong Mayo 15.
