Casimero-Inoue fight di muna matutuloy – Arum

NAKABINBIN ang inaabangang laban nina Naoya Inoue at John Riel Casimero sa Las Vegas hanggang hindi natatapos ang banta ng coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Ito ang sinabi ni Top Rank founder at CEO Bob Arum sa panayam ni Crystina Poncher patungkol sa bantamweight title unification bout sa pagitan nina Inoue at Casimero na ngayon ay nakabinbin.

“Unfortunately, it looks like we have to put that fight on the back burner,” sabi ni Arum sa BoxingScene.com. “Casimero has stayed in the United States, in Las Vegas and perhaps we can talk to his people and do another fight for him.”

Natigil ng COVID-19 pandemic ang halos lahat ng mga sports events sa mundo at pati ang mga boxing cards ay hindi nito pinalusot.

Makakasagupa sana ni Inoue, ang World Boxing Association (WBA) at Internatio­nal Boxing Federation (IBF) champion, si Casimero, ang World Boxing Organization (WBO) titleholder, ngayong Abril 25 sa Mandalay Bay and Resort subalit naurong sa ibang petsa ng COVID-19 pandemic ang sana ay Las Vegas debut nila.

Hindi nagkaroon ng pagkakataon si Inoue (19-0) na makapunta sa Estados Unidos bago ang pandemic habang si Casimero ay nasa Las Vegas na magmula pa noong Marso 15 para mag-ensayo at naghihintay na lamang ito ng pahintulot para makabalik sa Pilipinas.

“Unfortunately, I would say no. They had relaxed rules, relatively relaxed rules regarding this pandemic. The cases in Japan have really picked up, so now Japan is under a state of emergency,” sabi ni Arum.

Pinag-aaralan pa ni Arum at ng kanyang kumpanya kung may posibilidad na makapagsagawa ng mga laban na walang manonood.

Isa sa balak nila ay ilipad si Casimero patungong Japan para labanan si Inoue sa kanyang bansa subalit ibinasura rin ito.

“One thing we were considering is having Casimero go over to Japan and have that fight in Japan,” sabi pa ni Arum. “At one point it appeared possible, it’s no longer possible and Inoue won’t be able to come here [US] anytime soon.”
