Athletes Incentives Trust Fund itinatag ng POC

SA hangarin na lalo pang humusay ang mga atletang Pinoy sa larangan ng sports, nagsagawa ang Philippine Olympic Committee (POC), sa pangunguna ng pangulo nitong si Abraham Tolentino, ng incentive plan para sa mga medalist ng bansa sa mga international multi-sports tournaments.

At sa kauna-unahang pagkakataon sa kasaysayan ng lokal na Olympic body, sinabi ni Tolentino na itinatag nito ang isang Athletes Incentives Trust Fund (AITF) na nagkakaisang inaprubahan sa ginanap na POC executive board meeting Huwebes.

“It will give our athletes something to look forward to when they compete in international multi-sport events,” sabi ni Tolentino.

Subalit ang AITF ay nakatutok lamang sa pagbibigay ng pondo sa mga medal winners sa Olympics, Asian Games at Southeast Asian Games ayon sa PhilCycling chief.

“We will raise funding through the help of the private sector. We will be transparent with our sponsors, they will know that any financial aid will be intended purely for the trust fund,’’ sabi pa ni Tolentino.

Nagkaloob ang POC ng cash bonuses sa 149 gold medalists sa 30th Southeast Asian Games na ginanap sa Pilipinas at nagbigay din ito ng mga insentibo sa 117 silver at 121 bronze medal winners.

Ito ay hiwalay sa cash incentives na ibinibigay ng pamahalaan sa pamamagitan ng Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) at Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (Pagcor) base sa batas kung saan ang  mga gold-medal winners ay tatanggap ng P300,000 habang ang silver at bronze medal winners ay makakatanggap ng P150,000 at P60,000.

Maliban sa mga benepisyong pinansyal mula sa PSC at POC, nagbigay din ang Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ng insentibo sa mga SEA Games medalists.

“We will determine the amount of the cash incentives depending on how much the POC can raise,” sabi pa ni Tolentino.
