Liza, Maymay handa na bang sumabak sa Miss Universe PH?

Ronnie Carrasco III - February 10, 2020 - 12:30 AM

ISANG malaking hamon para kay Miss Universe 2011 third runner-up Shamcey Supsup ang pamunuan (as national director) for the first year ang Miss Universe Philippines, then Binibining Pilipinas sa ilalim ni Mrs. Stella Marquez de Araneta.

December noong isang taon nang ianunsiyo ng Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI) na hindi na ini-renew ng Miss Universe Organization ang kanilang prangkisa, this after 55 years and having produced four Miss Universe in its entire history (Gloria Diaz, Margie Moran, Pia Wurtzbach and Catriona Gray).

Gayunpaman, mismong si Shamcey na ang nagsabing no bad blood exists between Miss Universe Philippines and its predecessor.

Bilang paghahanda nga’y may ilan na ang nag-apply bilang mga kandidata sa “bagong bihis” na local pageant.

Bago matapos ang January, at least three former candidates to the Binibining Pilipinas filed their application.

Belonging to the same batch (2018), sila’y sina Ahtisa Manalo (hinirang na Binibining Pilipinas-International), Michele Gumabao (Globe) at Sandra Lemonon. Batchmate nila si Catriona.

Kung napanood n’yo ang coronation night, for sure, Sandra didn’t escape your attention. Siya ‘yung “nganga” ang isinagot sa tanong what she had to say about the government’s Build, Build, Build program.

Fast forward, however, mukhang wala naman talagang sagot sa tanong as the program, as it is, does not operate to the fullest.

Anyway, hindi na bago ang mga “recycled” candidates. Pia was one herself before she finally got the title. Even Catriona was Miss World Philipppines ahead of her Miss U title.

Wala naman sigurong “dearth” o kakapusan ng mga Filipina beauties across the country to join. Pero naiintindihan namin ang pagpapakitang-gilas ni Shamcey in her first year.

There are too many expectations to meet, dahil she was a title holder herself in recent past (just like Mrs. Araneta who represented her country Colombia many, many years ago).

Sana lang, this year’s first Miss Universe Philippines won’t turn out to be a bastion of “recycled beauties.”

There’s also Faith da Silva, what with her looks and height. Pero aminado siyang she needs extensive training for it.
Under the new stewardship, sana lang ay walang pagbabago as to will train the eventual winner pagdating sa casual interview at Q&A portion.

Let’s give it to Kuya Boy Abunda!

No wonder people are harping on Alden Richards’ accepting a liquor commercial gayong aniya, he’s no drinker.

Ano’ng silbi nga naman meron ang isang produktong inilalako ng isang celebrity endorser if he doesn’t patronize it, much less use it regardless kung anong brand ito?

We know a lot of celebrities who get paid to endorse such-and-such branded products pero hindi naman ‘yon ang tatak na ginagamit nila.

Alden’s case is a bit worse. Hindi nga kasi siya manginginom, not even a social drinker yata kaya anong credibility ang pinanghahawakan niya to endorse a liquor brand?

Simpleng kaso lang ‘yon ng “he doesn’t follow what he preaches,” tama? Shouldn’t truth in advertising start from the commercial endorser himself?
