“GM Balinas is really one of the best Filipino chess players ever. He was an idol,” sabi ni Grandmaster Rogelio Antonio, Jr. sa kanyang pagdalo sa ika-37 edisyon ng “Usapang Sports” na hatid ng Tabloids Organization in Philippine Sports (TOPS) Huwebes ng umaga sa National Press Club sa Intramuros, Maynila.

“I am deeply honored to be invited to play in the Balinas Memorial. I was a student of GM Balinas and I can say I am one of his more successful students. I really owe a lot to him,” sabi pa ng 57-anyos na si Antonio, na dumalo sa lingguhang public service program kasama sina GM Darwin Laylo, Engr. Tony Balinas at Philippine Executives Chess Asdociation (PECA) president Dr. Jenny Mayor.

“I was not to able to meet GM Balinas, but I know him as one of our strongest players.

“Balinas and other Filipino players excel in this type of competition. You can see the beauty of chess in the old format, which is the standard or long game. It is a lot betterthan the rapid or blitz style,” sabi ni Engr.
