SUPORTADO ni Pangulong Duterte ang pagtatayo ng comfort room para sa mga lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer/questioning (LGBTQ).
Sa isang briefing, sinabi ni Presidential Spokesperson at Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo na ito ang ipinahayag ni Duterte sa kanilang pag-uusap.
“He’s inclined doon sa third restroom for them, mayroon silang sarili,” sabi ni Panelo.
Idinagdag ni Panelo na ito’y para walang maging diskriminasyon sa paggamit ng CR.
“O kaya naman ‘di common na sa lahat, pareho ng mga nandiyan sa mga coffee shops ‘di ba, puro common ang CR, walang discrimination – you can come in and out, mag-aantay ka lang,” ayon pa kay Panelo.
Nauna nang nakipagpulong si Duterte sa sinaktan at pinosasan na transwoman na si Gretchen Diez matapos siyang gumamit ng comfort room ng mga babae sa isang mall.
