BAKIT Bicol Volcanoes ang monicker ng team at hindi Bicol Express?

Yan ang tanong ng batikang radioman na si Rambo sa mga bossing ng Bicol Volcanoes, na isang expansion team ng Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL).

Hindi tuloy napigilan ng sangkaterbang miron na dumalo sa ika-31 TOPS Usapang Sports sa National Press Club na mapahagikhik sa tuwa. Tama nga naman si kaibigang Rambo sapagkat talagang nakakalaway pag sinabing Bicol Express na pagkaing may gata, sili at kung ano-ano pang lahok. Tiyak sira ang dyeta.

Ngunit mahusay na pinaliwanag ni Team owner/President Gil Orense. Ang dahilan aniya kung bakit Volcanoes and monicker ng koponan ng mga oragon (#pusongoragon) ay dahil hindi lang pala ang “perpektong” Mayon Volcano ang bulkan sa rehiyon kundi may iba pa tulad ng Mt. Labo, Mt. Malinao at Mt. Isarog.

Pagdating din sa isports, matindi ang dating ng Volcanoes sapagkat maaaring sabihin na kapag sumabog ang bulkan ay wala nang makapipigil pa dito sa MPBL.

Kung susuriin ay mapalad ang Bicol Volcanoes sapagkat mayroon itong matibay na taga-suporta na bahagi na rin ng buhay ng mga Bicolano.

Ito ay ang LCC (Liberty Commercial Center) Super Malls na pinakamalaki sa buong rehiyon. Mag seselebra na ng ika-75 taon anibersaryo ang LCC sa susunod na taon at kanilang ipinagmamalaki ang #Ourbestforyou.

Dumating sa Usapang Sports ang mga bigwigs ng koponan na sina Bicol Volcanoes vice president Mark Tan, Bicol Volcanoes team owner-president Gil Orense, LCC Department Stores president Ed Ponce, LCC Supermarkets president Eric Poiret and LCC vice president for operations Christian Tan.

Mahusay nilang sinagot ang mga katanungan. Ang maganda pa nito ay mahilig pala sa basketbol talaga sina Mark at Christian kaya naman napakadali ng kanilang pagtulong sa koponan. Masaya rin, anila, na pagsamahin ang ‘‘business with pleasure.’’

Alam ba ninyo na may 63 LCC Supermarket at 23 LCC Department Stores sa Bicol. Nasa Bicol ang mga siyudad ng Iriga, Legazpi, Ligao, Masbate, Naga, Sorsogon City at Tabaco City. Ang mga probinsiya ng Bicol ay Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Masbate at Sorsogon. So talagang napakalaki ng rehiyon na ito.

Dahil sa makataong presyo at kalidad na mga bilihin ay bahagi na ng buhay ng mga Bicolano ang LCC na patuloy (ayon kay Ponce at Poiret) na magpapalago sa Bicol Region at hindi magtatagal ay baka umabot na sila sa iba pang rehiyon kabilang na ang Metro Manila.

Ginawa ang pirmahan ng kasunduan sa pagitan ng LCC at Bicol Volcanoes sa Usapang Sports at naging witness nito si TOPS president Ed Andaya ng People’s Tonight.

Coach ng Volacanoes ang Bikolanong si Monel Kallos at manager naman ang isa pang Bikolano na si Nomar Isla.

Dahil sa corporate social responsibility program ng LCC ay halos lahat ng manlalaro ng Volcanoes ay oragon. Kabilang dito sina Ronjay Buenafe, Chris Lalata, Jerome Garcia, Alex Nuyles, Alex Nueva at Aimar Sabayo.

PSC OFFICIAL STATEMENT

The Philippine Sports Commission, the Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee and the Philippine Olympic Committee are united in one leadership of the President of the Republic, to host and participate in the 30th Southeast Asian Games.

There is no truth to the allegation of corruption. Cong. Alan Peter Cayetano, and myself sat down with Sen. Bong Go and Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea to sort out issues being reported by news outfits in the past days.

We assure the athletes and the general public that all decisions and transactions will be done with utmost transparency. The PSC, through the guidance of the Department of Budget Management and assistance of the Procurement Service shall work together to ensure that public funds are protected and that all disbursements or expenses follow existing government rules and laws.

We shall be gathering Presidents and athletes of all POC and PSC accredited NSAs to personally update them on developments and be witnesses to the pledge of unity of major stakeholders of Philippine sports.

We enjoin the country to be united in supporting government efforts and lend support towards the victory of our beloved athletes. All for our dear country’s pride and glory.

Sa Nobyembre 30 na nakatakdang mag-umpisa ang SEA Games na gaganapin dito sa Pilipinas. Hulyo na ngayon at nararapat lamang na magkasundo na ang mga sports leaders natin para huwag tayong mapahiya bilang host ng palarong ito.
