Catriona ibinandera ang Tacloban sa buong universe
MULING ibinandera ni 2018 Miss Universe-Philippines Catriona Gray ang rich culture and heritage ng mga Pinoy sa latest entry ng kanyang “This is Philippines” video series.
Dito, ipinagmalaki niya ang Tacloban, Leyte, as a destination to represent Visayas. May titulong, “This is Visayas: Survivors and Warriors,” ipinakita sa video kung gaano katindi ang sinapit ng mga tagaroon matapos manalanta ang super typhoon Yolanda limang taon na ang nakararaan.
Dito nakasama niya ang si Catherine Manatag, isa sa mga Yolanda surivivor na namatayan din ng magulang at kapatid. Ayon kay Catriona, “After learning of a Catherine’s story, when I walked around the streets of Tacloban, I saw everyone in the new light. I saw that they are not just ordinary people but survivors.
“I wondered to myself how is it that they could lose so much, but still find a will to live or still find the reason to keep going. How is it like they could be dealt such an unfair hand in life but still look forward to tomorrow? So maybe I thought the answer could lie in the history of Leyte.”
Ayon sa dalaga, isa ito sa naging inspirasyon niya sa isinuot niyang national costume sa pre-pageant ng 2018 Miss Universe sa Bangkok, Thailand.
