HINDI lang umano mga K-pop artist ang dumating sa bansa mula sa South Korea, kundi maging ang kanilang basura.
Ayon sa EcoWaste Coalition pumasok sa bansa ang mga basurang plastik mula sa South Korea.
“We find this latest incident of plastic waste dumping outrageous and unacceptable. Why do we keep on accepting garbage from other countries when we know that our country’s plastic waste, which is literally everywhere, is spilling to the oceans and endangering marine life?” tanong ni Aileen Lucero, National Coordinator ng EcoWaste.
Sinabi ni Lucero na habang gumagawa ng hakbang ang South Korea upang mabawasan ang paggamit ng plastik itinatapon naman nito ang kanilang kalat sa ibang bansa gaya ng Pilipinas. Simula Oktobre ay ipinagbawal na sa mga supermarket sa South Korea ang paggamit ng plastic bag.
Ang mga basura ay idineklara umanong “plastic synthetic flakes” sa Bureau of Customs. Dumating ito sa Cagayan de Oro City sakay ng MV Affluent Ocean noong Hulyo 21.
“It’s high time for the Philippines to disallow garbage imports and to demand that developed countries, as well as manufacturers of plastics and other disposable goods, take full responsibility for their products throughout their whole life cycle,” ani Lucero.
Nauna ng nagprotesta ang EcoWaste Coalition ng dumating sa bansa ang mga basura mula sa Canada na idineklara ring recyclable plastic scraps.
“Barring the importation of plastic garbage should form part of the government’s efforts to improve existing regulations to avoid a repeat of the Canadian garbage saga.”
