100-day maternity leave umusad na sa kamara

INAPRUBAHAN na ng Kamara de Representantes sa ikalawang pagbasa ang panukala na gawing 100 araw ang maternity leave.

Matapos na ipasok ang mga amyenda sa panukala ay inaprubahan sa pamamagitan ng viva voce voting ang House bill 4113.

Sa ilalim ng panukala, gagawin ng 100 ang maternity leave with pay at kung nanaisin ay maaaring madagdagan ng 30 araw pa subalit wala ng bayad.

Sinabi ni Quezon City Rep. Alfred Vargas, isa sa mga may-akda ng panukala, na nananatiling mataas ang child mortality rata sa bansa. Sa bawat 1,000 nabubuhay na sanggol, 30 ang namamatay.

“Recent studies show that extending paid maternity leave for new mothers reduces infant mortality. The cause is yet to be known but it may be linked to longer periods of breast feedings and better health care,” ani Vargas.

Sa kasalukuyan ay 60 araw ang maternity leave sa bansa.
