MATAPOS masuspendi ang basketbolistang si Keifer Ravena nang magpositibo sa banned substance, ipinaparebisa ng isang lady solon ang regulasyon ng mga dietary supplement na mayroong mga kemikal na ipinagbabawal ng World Anti-Doping Agency.
Ayon kay House committee youth and sports committee vice chairman Chiqui Roa-Puno dapat mapigilan ang hindi intensyonal na pag-inom ng mga atleta ng mga produkto na mayroong halong ipinagbabawal na kemikal gaya ng nangyari kay Ravena.
“WADA’s rules, as well as the agency’s list of banned substances are universally recognized and accepted but not necessarily widely-known. With proper implementation and education, we can effectively prevent our athletes, like Ravena, from unknowingly ingesting prohibited substances which could adversely affect their health and result in their ineligibility to play in their respective sports.”
Nagpositibo si Ravena sa random drug test na isinagawa ng FIBA (International Basketball Federation) matapos ang laro sa pagitan ng Gilas Pilipinas at Japan noong Pebrero 25.
“We should ensure that our athletes, their coaches, managers, and health professionals are cognizant of the current anti-doping codes, and can readily identify prohibited substances in order avoid their unintended consumption,” saad ng solon.
Sa isang press conference sinabi ni Ravena na hindi niya alam na mayroong ipinagbabawal na kemikal ang iniinom niyang dietary supplement.
Ayon sa WADA tatlong banned substance ang nakita sa pagsusuri kay Ravena. Ito ang 4-methylhexan-2-amine,1,3-dimethylbutylamine at higenamine. Ang mga ito ay hindi ipinagbabawal ng batas sa Pilipinas.
Si Ravena ay pinagbawalang makapaglaro ng 18 buwan o hanggang Agosto 24, 2019.
