MAPANATILI ang kapit sa solong liderato at masungkit ang ikapitong sunod na panalo ang tatangkain ng Barangay Ginebra Gin Kings sa pagsagupa nito sa Blackwater Elite sa tampok na laro ngayon sa elimination round ng 2017 PBA Governors’ Cup sa Mall of Asia Arena, Pasay City.

Una munang magsasagupa ang Alaska Aces at Globalport Batang Pier ganap na alas-4:15 ng hapon bago sundan ng salpukan ng Gin Kings at Elite dakong alas-7 ng gabi.

Huling binigo ng Gin Kings, kahit napakasaklap ng kanilang free throw shooting, ang Star Hotshots, 105-101, sa overtime noong Linggo upang agad na makasiguro ng silya sa quarterfinals ng kumperensiya.

Muling sasandigan ng Ginebra ang import na si Justin Brownlee na kumulekta ng 33 puntos, 10 rebounds, limang assists at dalawang steals kontra Star upang ihatid ang koponan sa anim na larong winning streak.

“Our guys were just absolutely exhausted,” sabi ni Ginebra head coach Tim Cone sa kanyang koponan na bitbit ang solong liderato sa 6-1 panalo-talong kartada. “We will be playing another team that was eager for an important victory so we expect another tough game ahead.”

Aasahan din ng Gin Kings si Joe Devance na nagtala ng 17 puntos, 11 rebounds at walong assists gayundin si Greg Slaughter na may 17 puntos, 10 rebounds at tatlong blocks.

Reresolbahan din ng Ginebra ang mga sablay nito sa free throw line na umabot sa 18 mula sa 30 attempts.

Asam naman ng Alaska na masundan ang una nitong panalo matapos ang limang buwan na kamalasan sa pagsagupa nito sa kapwa nanganganib mapatalsik na Globalport.

“We just got keep working,” sabi lamang ni Compton matapos ang 90-79 panalo ng Aces kontra San Miguel Beermen noong nakaraang Sabado upang pigilan ang 14 sunod na larong kabiguan sapul sa Commissioner’s Cup.

“We still have a mathematical chance,” nasabi lamang ni Compton.
