Kampeonato puntirya ng under-16 Batang Gilas

NANINIWALA si Batang Gilas Under-16 national head coach Michael Oliver na kayang dominahin ng kanyang maliksi at matangkad na koponan ang Southeast Asian region.
Pero aniya, kailangan ng ibayong paghahanda at determinasyon mula sa kanyang koponan para maisakatuparan ang minimithing titulo.
Magsisimula na sa Linggo ang torneyo sa Araneta Coliseum pero ngayon pa lang ay handa na aniya ang Batang Gilas na ipakita ang kanilang husay at kakayahan.

Inihayag ito ni Oliver at team manager Andrew Teh sa pagdalo nila sa lingguhang Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum kahapon.
Bukod sa pagsungkit sa kampeonato ay hangad din ng koponan na makapasok sa Fiba Under-17 World Cup sa susunod na taon.

“Of couse, we aim to finish at the top. We prepared well for this tournament and the team wants to prove something like what their older brothers are doing in the Gilas team,” sabi ni Oliver.

Umaabot ang komposisyon ng koponan sa average height na 6-foot-5 at ang pinakamatangkad nitong manlalaro ay ang 14-anyos na si Kai Sotto na may taas na 6-foot-11.

Si Sotto ay naglalaro na para sa Ateneo Blue Eaglets at ipinapamalas ang kanyang kakayahan sa loob ng court sa ginaganap na Milcu Sports Basketball Summer Showcase.

Makakasama ni Sotto sina Geo Chiu, Raven Cortez, Josh Lazaro, Lloyd Oliva at Bismarck Line, na pawang may height na hindi bababa sa 6-foot-5.

Kabilang din sa under-16 PH national team sina Miguel Tan, Rafael Go, RC Calimag, Daniel Coo, McLaude Guadaña, Forthsky Padrigao, Terrence Fortea, Ryan Yu at Migs Pascual.

Unang makakasagupa ng Pilipinas ang Singapore sa darating na Linggo. —Angelito Oredo
