Volleyball medal asam ng PH sa SEAG

NANGAKO ang Larong Volleyball sa Pilipinas Incorporated (LVPI) na makakapag-uwi ito ng medalya mula sa 29th Southeast Asian Games na gaganapin sa Agosto 19-31 sa Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Kasabay nito ay inihayag sa publiko ang 24 kataong bumubuo sa training pool para sa national women’s team at 25 miyembro sa men’s training pool kahapon sa lingguhang Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum sa Golden Phoenix Hotel.
Ilang opisyales ng LVPI at mga miyembro ng national coaching staff na sina Joey Romasanta, Ramon Tats Suzara, Bryan Esquibel, Atty. Ramon Malinao, coaches Francis Vicente at Sammy Acaylar, Rod Roque, Tani Ignacio, Michael Carino at Peter Cayco ang dumalo sa PSA Forum kahapon.
“We are looking for a silver medal finish in the coming SEA Games,” sabi ni Romasanta, habang ipinaubaya kina men’s national team coach Sammy Acaylar at women’s coach Francis Vicente ang pagpapakilala sa kani-kanilang training pool.
Ang men’s team ay binubuo nina Mark Deximo, Relan Taneo, John Kenneth Sarcena, Geuel Asia, Rey Taneo, John Vic De Guzman, Alnakran Abdilla, Howard Mojica, Mark Alfafara, Dave Cabaron, Peter Torres, Lorenzo Capate, Bonjomar Castel, Reyson Fuentes, Herschel Ramos, Louwie Chavez, Jack Kalingking, John Paul Bugaoan, John Carascal, Eddiemar at Esmail Kasim, Petejohn Quiel, Anjo Pertiera, Erickson Ramos at Jeff Malabanan.
Ang mga napili para sa women’s team ay sina Maddie Maddayag, Kat Tolentino, Kim Dy, Dawn Macandili, Jaja Santiago, Lourdes Clemente, Denden Lazaro, Genevieve Casugod, Rachel Anne Daquis, Maika Ortiz, Dindin Manabat, Bia General, Rhea Dimaculangan, Aiza Maizo Pontillas, Roselle Baliton, Kathleen Arado, Ria Meneses, Alyssa Valdez, Myla Pablo, Mika Aereen Reyes, Elaine Kasilag, Jovelyn Gonzaga, Abegail Marano at Grethcel Soltones.
Ipinaliwanag pa ni Romasanta na umaasa ang asosasyon na tuluyang makakapagkuwalipika ang dalawang koponan base sa itinakdang criteria ng Philippines SEA Games Task Force sa paglahok sa mga nakatakdang torneo base sa kalendaryo ng Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC).
“We are looking to compete on some AVC tournament for us to qualify to the criteria,” sabi nina Acaylar at Vicente, na aminadong kapwa hangad ang makasungkit ng medalya sa SEA Games sa taong ito at sa 2019 kung kailan ang Pilipinas ang host.
Mula sa pool na ito ay pipili ng final 12-man lineup ang LVPI.
Matatandaan na huling nakapagbigay ng tansong medalya ang men’s volleyball team noong 1993 SEA Games habang taong 2005 huling nanalo ng tansong medalaya ang women’s team kung saan sa Bacolod City ito isinagawa. —Angelito Oredo
